How to Choose Quality Hair Extensions

Your Hair is an Investment

There are so many different hair textures and made up quality numbers that consumers get confused and frustrated. With the price of hair you want to make sure that you understand what you are purchasing before you make an investment in extensions.

Where does hair come from?

Russia, India, and China

What is the difference between Remy, Non-Remy, Virgin and Raw Extensions?

Remy

Is a type of hair that is characterized by the way it is processed with all cuticles aligned in the same direction. Remy hair is collected from different sources and processed so that the root to the tip of the cuticles (outside layer of the hair) is traveling in one direction. This helps to prevent tangles and frizz. The manufacture can also dye or color hair in many colors for desired look.

Non-Remy

As you may have guessed the cuticles on Non-Remy hair are not traveling in the same direction, which is why it is less expensive. When the cuticles are in different directions it requires a lot more processing with acid chemicals which causes the hair to be dry and brittle. Manufactures then treat the hair with lots of silicone to improve the appearance of the hair making it look healthy and shiny. Once you shampoo the hair the silicone washes away and you are left with dry, brittle, tangled hair. Many consumers will try to preserve this hair with silicone conditioners, however this is a temporary fix and does not always produce great results. Non-Remy hair can be a nightmare to manage.

Virgin

Virgin hair is chemically unprocessed human hair, which is collected from a single donor. ... Virgin hair and Remy hair both are 100% natural human hair. The cuticles are going in the same direction from root to tip.

Raw

Raw Hair is hair comes from a single donor and has NOT been altered by steam or chemical processing in any way. Raw Hair being completely unprocessed and chemical free, Raw Hair is the most natural, 100% authentic hair on the market today. It comes from a single donor and usually goes through an extensive sanitizing process.

Raw hair donors are mostly from Vietnam, India, Burma, and Cambodia. Their hair texture is almost the same with most hair types being straight. This means that you will rarely find raw hair being tightly curled. Most of the hair will be wavy or straight and on occasion curly.

As I’m sure you know there are more people wanting to purchase RAW than it is available therefore manufactures are getting creative and using more than one donor. Raw hair that exclusively uses one donor is very expensive for this reason.

Want to test your bundles? Burn a strand or two of the hair (Please use precaution and hold hair over the wet sink. Do not do this if you are under 18 years of age).

Burn the strands and this will tell you whether the hair is human hair or synthetic. The virgin and raw hair burns quick and completely when set on fire. It also smells like natural hair. The synthetic hair burns slower and it smells like plastic.
